The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program, and is a photo and graphic editor similar to Photoshop. The GIMP is a free open source program, and has a lot of features found in costly professional software.

The GIMP can be used as a simple paint program, as a photo retouching program, an image format converter, batch processing system, or however else you would like. Because of the extensible and open source nature of GIMP, anything can be done with the software by extending it with scripts and plug-ins.
